PRESENTATION OF KING’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE TO THE KIERAN McDADE FOUNDATION
Deputy Lieutenant Derrick Hannan DL recently presented the King’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Kieran McDade Foundation .The photograph shows Mr Hannan presenting the prestigious award to Mr Martin Holmes , the co-founder of the organisation which was set up in memory of a young footballer Kieran McDade who tragically died during a training session from a cardiac arrest . Kieran played for Dunbeth Football Club based in Monklands .
The club set up the Foundation in Kieran’s memory raising many thousands of pounds through holding a wide range of events . The money has been used to purchase defibrillators and these have been freely given to numerous youth football teams within Lanarkshire and the wider central Scotland area . The Foundation has also provided training in the use of defibrillators to over 20,000 people .
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the United Kingdom for outstanding work in their local communities .

ST MARK’S CHURCH COLTNESS – THURSDAY FELLOWSHIP
Vice Lord Lieutenant Gavin Whitefield CBE DL attended the fortnightly meeting of the Thursday Fellowship Group at St Mark’s Church in Coltness on 29th February 2024 .
Following an introduction by the Chair of the Fellowship Group Nancy Barbour , Gavin spoke about the role of the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy and some of his experiences during his time as Clerk to the Lieutenancy , Deputy Lieutenant and now Vice Lord Lieutenant .
Gavin received a very warm welcome and enjoyed meeting members of the group whilst enjoying excellent homebaking and tea at the end of the meeting !
CITIZENSHIP CEREMONIES
Every month the Lieutenancy attends Citizenship Ceremonies in North and South Lanarkshire Council .
On 28th February 2024 the Ceremony to welcome new citizens to North Lanarkshire , hosted by the Depute Provost , Councillor Bob Burgess was attended by Deputy Lieutenant Mary Hernon MBE DL .
THE KING’S AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE 2024
MOIRA ANDERSON MEMORIAL GARDEN
Deputy Lieutenant Derrick Hannan DL was delighted to open a new Memorial Garden in Airdrie on 20th February.
The Moira Anderson Foundation (MAF)charity was started in 2000 to support people of all ages affected by Childhood Sexual Abuse. MAF supports people from all over Scotland , but predominantly from Lanarkshire and Glasgow. The garden, with a special stone to commemorate Moira Anderson, the 11 year old girl who went missing from Coatbridge in 1957, MAF is her legacy. The Foundation was founded by Sandra Brown OBE who joined Derrick Hannan for the official opening of the garden.
