REMEMBRANCE SERVICES – NOVEMBER 2021

As we approach Remembrance Sunday on 14th November 2021 the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy has finalised plans to lay sixty eight wreaths at towns and villages right across the county . A number of locations having been added to what was an already extended list in 2020 , as the Lieutenancy  aims  to include every war memorial in Lanarkshire .

The third  public speaking competition for schools in Lanarkshire, organised by the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy,   was held on 8th October 2021  at the  Town House, Hamilton   with the following schools taking part:

Biggar High School

Chryston High School

St Ambrose High School  , Coatbridge

St Andrew’s  and St Bride’s  High School , East Kilbride

ARMED FORCES DAY 2021

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community : from currently serving troops to Service families , veterans and cadets .

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June and this year it will be on Saturday 26th June .The celebrations began on Monday 21st June when the Armed Forces Day flag was  raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country . Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Haughey CBE was present at  the flag raising ceremony hosted by Provost Jean Jones of North Lanarkshire Council at the Council Headquarters in Motherwell on Monday with attendance limited due to Covid restrictions . A similar flag raising ceremony was  also organised by  South Lanarkshire Council .
