I hope you and your families are well and staying safe in these challenging and anxious times.
This is to update you on the latest information received from both North and South Lanarkshire Councils and the Association of Lord-Lieutenants.
General Lieutenancy Business
With Lockdown procedures in place all duties, events, and engagements continue to be cancelled indefinitely. Hopefully a number of them can be rearranged once the current crisis is over.
Royal Garden Party.
An official announcement regarding the Royal Garden Party in Edinburgh on 1st July 2020 is expected shortly . However given that the current restrictions on mass gatherings will be in place for a number of months to come it can be assumed that it will not go ahead and it is envisaged that guests nominated to attend this year’s Garden Party will receive an invitation for next year’s event .
Citizenship Ceremonies.
All Ceremonies are cancelled until further notice.
100th Birthdays and 60th Wedding Anniversaries
Visits to 100th Birthdays and 60th Wedding anniversaries are suspended until further notice. Recipients are still receiving a congratulations card from the Queen. Those who missed out on a visit from the Provost and the Lieutenancy, will be advised they can receive a subsequent visit once the current restrictions are lifted.
Queens’s Award for Voluntary Service
Nominations for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2020 have been assessed and will be notified if they have been successful in this round at the beginning of June.
Very sadly over 380 people from Lanarkshire have died from the virus and our thoughts and sympathies are with their families and friends at this exceptionally difficult time .
I know I speak for everyone in the Lieutenancy in paying tribute to NHSL, doctors, nurses, care workers and those who put their life at risk to care for Covid 19 patients. Along with front line emergency , public sector employees , voluntary organisations and other key workers they have done an amazing job working tirelessly and selflessly providing essential services and support to the people of Lanarkshire. There has also been a tremendous and powerful response in these very challenging times from so many people who have volunteered and helped others in their local community .
As stated by Her Majesty The Queen in her broadcast to the nation on 5th April 2020 ” Together we are tackling this disease and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute we will overcome it. “
Lady Haughey CBE
Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire
