One of the key roles of the Lord Lieutenant and an important function of the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy is to raise awareness of the King’s Awards for Enterprise within the Lanarkshire business community.
An information session was held on Wednesday 15th May 2024 at Hamilton Racecourse in that regard and Lord Lieutenant, Lady Susan Haughey welcomed attendees representing businesses along with some representatives from neighbouring lieutenancies.
The audience heard from Deputy Lieutenant Terry Currie about the Lieutenancy’s desire to improve communications with the business community. Bernard Idowu from the King’s Awards Office in London then talked about the award categories, the eligibility criteria, the application process, the decision-making process and the benefits to a business of winning an award.
Tony Burns Chief Operating Officer of ACS Clothing, one of 10 Scottish businesses to win the first ever King’s Awards for Enterprise, addressed the audience and spoke of his experiences.
Terry Currie, in his concluding remarks, urged businesses to seek guidance from the Lieutenancy regarding award applications. He also referred to some other activities such as the King’s Awards for Voluntary Service and the Schools Public Speaking Competition.
The reaction from the audience was very positive and everyone felt it was a very informative session which will hopefully result in more applications for the King’s Award for Enterprise from Lanarkshire in the future .
