On a regular basis representatives of the Lieutenancy attend Citizen Ceremonies hosted by North and South Lanarkshire Councils welcoming new citizens to the County .
For example , on Thursday 14th December Deputy Lieutenant Derrick Hannan DL at a South Lanarkshire Council ceremony where thirteen adults from thirteen different countries completed their journey to full British citizenship .
Provost Margaret Cooper and Derrick Hannan both delivered an address to the participants who then swore an “Oath of Allegiance ” or ” Affirmation of Allegiance “. The Provost then presented their certificate of UK Citizenship and the Deputy Lieutenant a medal (pictured) from South Lanarkshire Council as a memento of the special occasion .
