VETERANS LANARKSHIRE

Following an invitation from Bernard Kelly of  Veterans Lanarkshire   the Vice Lord-Lieutenant,  Gavin Whitefield CBE DL visited a meeting of the group at its base in Hunter Street , Bellshill on Tuesday 3rd December 2019.

In the course of the meeting Gavin was appraised of the tremendous work of the group in providing support to ex-servicemen and women from across the county . The group works  very effectively with a considerable number of other organisations and is exceptionally committed to ensure it can meet the ever increasing demand there is for assistance in so many forms from people who have served in the armed forces .
Services provided include :
  • Information and signposting
  • Understanding and listening
  • Support and social networking
  • Health and well-being
Those present at the meeting spoke very openly and positively  about the valued services provided by  Veterans Lanarkshire and how much they enjoyed meetings and getting to know other members of the group . An example of this was the discussion which took place to finalise the arrangements for the annual  Christmas Meal which would shortly take place at the base .
The meeting also provided the opportunity for Gavin to update the group on the work of the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy and its commitment to both serving and former members of all of our armed forces .
Contact details of the group are attached and any  veterans in the area who wish to learn more about the group and its services are urged to get in touch.
