George Barnsley
George served as a police officer with Strathclyde Police for 32 years, retiring with the rank of Superintendent. He served in Lanarkshire, Glasgow and The Scottish Police College, on uniform and Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D.) duties. He has worked on several high-profile criminal investigation cases and is a fully qualified Senior Investigating Officer. He co-authored the Review of Crime Scene Management and DNA capture for Strathclyde Police and was part of a small team which developed, delivered and introduced Investigative Interview training throughout Scotland. He organised the C.I.D. response of Strathclyde Police for the G8 summit in 2005 and in 2009 he led the team which developed and delivered the training for the new legislation relating to Criminal Disclosure in Scotland. When he retired, he and his wife established a training and consultancy company delivering investigation training to local authority and government investigators. George has also delivered training to the police in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. He is co-founder and Chair of the Lanarkshire Police Historical Society (LPHS). George and the LPHS recently campaigned, along with others, for the successful introduction of the ‘Elizabeth Emblem’, which is awarded, by the Monarch, as a mark of recognition to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the course of undertaking eligible public service. George is married and has four children and three grandchildren.
