REMEMBERING THE CONFLICT OF WW2 IN THE FAR EAST

Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Roberts attended a poignant ceremony on Tuesday , August 15th to pay tribute to those who perished as prisoners of war in the Far East during the Second World War .

The event was attended by veteran’s groups, local politicians, and members of the public who gathered to honour the brave individuals who endured unimaginable hardships before the Japanese forces surrendered on August 15th , 1945 marking theĀ  end of the conflict and the Second World War as a whole .

Hosted outside the Civic Centre in Motherwell , the ceremony was led by Provost Kenneth Duffy of North Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Provost , Margaret Cooper . Wreaths were laid at the War Memorial and a minute’s silence held to remember those who lost their lives in the conflict .
