The Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Haughey CBE is delighted to announce the appointment of three new Deputy Lieutenants –
Angela Bonomy DL
Angela is a “Motherwell girl” who now lives in Bothwell with her husband and daughter.
She attended Ladywell Primary School then Dalziel High School, and went on to study Law at Glasgow University.
She is the Chief Executive of Sense Scotland, a social care charity which supports people with complex learning, physical and sensory disabilities.
As well as third sector experience, she also has public sector experience, having worked in Scottish Government, and private sector experience, having worked for Boots the Chemists in Nottingham for 10 years.
She is a Board member of the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) and also sits on the Board of the Glasgow City Integrated Joint Board (IJB).
Angela sings in a choir (which rehearses in Hamilton) and supports Motherwell FC.
Alastair Peat DL
Born in Bellshill, Alastair attended primary school in Coatbridge at Gartsherrie Academy , followed by Coatbridge High School , before entering the world of full-time employment with Clydesdale Bank where he enjoyed a 41-year career in a wide variety of roles at various levels in branches and specialist Head Office departments including Law Department and Financial Crime Risk . Married to Fiona , they have three children – Laura, Elaine and Alan – and three grandchildren. Alastair has lived his whole life in North Lanarkshire , all in Coatbridge except for a spell in nearby Airdrie while the family attended school there . He has 46 years experience in the voluntary sector through work with the Boys’ Brigade , and his interests include most sports, playing football and badminton in his younger days and now a season ticket holder at Albion Rovers FC.
Dr William Morrison Young DL
Doctor Young studied medicine at Aberdeen University then worked in training posts in Lanarkshire hospitals. Thereafter, he joined his father-in-law, Dr J F Kay in GP practice in Hamilton. He quickly became the Senior GP Partner and worked in the practice as a family doctor for 34 years until his retirement in 2016.
Medical Officer for the Scottish Karate Federation for 18 years and during this time gained his senior 4th DAN qualification. A keen Scuba Diver and currently the treasurer of the local branch of Clyde Valley Divers and also served for 7 years as Financial Director on the board of SCOTSAC (The National Scottish Sub Aqua Club, Edinburgh) 2015 – 2022.
He has lived and worked in Lanarkshire for over 40 years, brought his family up here and very well integrated into the community.
