THE QUEEN’S GREEN CANOPY – TREE OF TREES PRESENTATION TO SYLVIA RUSSELL MBE

Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey CBE presented Sylvia Russell MBE  from Lanark  with a very special tree on Tuesday 10th January 2023  .

It was one of 350 saplings that made up the Tree of Trees , a giant sculpture constructed ar Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year. The sculpture was dismantled and the young trees allocated to  every Lord Lieutenant in Britain .

Each tree was then awarded to organisations or individuals who had warranted such an honour . Lady Haughey singled out Sylvia, as recipient of one of only three trees in Lanarkshire, in recognition of Sylvia tireless work in the community over the years championing many causes including her sterling work as Chair of the Lanark Community Development Trust .

As well as the rowan tree ,which was planted in the car park opposite the Castlebank Horticultural Centre , Sylvia was presented with two plaques . The first is wall mounted and has been attached to the outside wall of the  Horticultural Centre . The second, which Lady Haughey had personaly made commemorated the presentation ceremony and the visit by the Lord Lieutenant .
