UNVEILING OF LANARK’S MIGHTY CLYDESDALE

Vice Lord-Lieutenant Gavin Whitefield CBE DL  was delighted to attend a ceremony to unveil a fantastic sculpture   of a Clydesdale Horse in Lanark  on Saturday 23rd July 2022 .

Situated on a mound in Lanark Auction Market overlooking the south approach to the Royal Burgh , the sculpture  was developed at a cost of £55,000 by the Lanark Community Development Trust chaired by Sylvia Russell MBE and aims to promote Lanark’s heritage and spark local interest in the Clydedale Horse which was first bred at the nearby Langloch Farm three hundred years ago.

As part of this project the Trust has already delivered talks in five local primary schools with all P7 pupils being given a copy of a very impressive booklet outlining the history of the Clydesdale and Lanark’s connection to it . The foreword in the booklet was written by HRH Prince Charles , Duke of Rothesay in his capacity as Patron of the Clydesdale Horse Society .

Many congratulations to Sylvia and everyone involved in the project for all their hard work over the last five years  raising the funds to establish such an amazing sculpture of “Lanark’s Mighty Clydesdale “.
