CELEBRATION LUNCH – NEW COLLEGE LANARKSHIRE – UK WINNERS

 

Following an invitation from the Chair of the New College Lanarkshire Board , Ronnie Smith , Vice Lord-Lieutenant Gavin Whitefield CBE DL was delighted to attend  a lunch on 15th January 2020   to celebrate the tremendous success of the College at the recent WorldSkills Championships held in the NEC Birmingham .

The College was  named the best in the UK for skills provision after coming out top at the national ” skills  olympics” , WorldSkills UK .

Students from across the College’s Motherwell , Coatbridge and Cumbernauld campuses won 17 medals – including four gold , four silver , six bronze and three highly commended awards .  This amazing win came after three days of intense competition involving over 500 of the UK’s top apprentices and learners who took part in the finals at the WorldSkills UK LIVE Skills Exhibition with 80,000 young people and dozens of leading employers from the UK in attendance . The number of medals won by the College meant it topped the leader board – the fourth time it has been named number one performing institution in the competition since 2013 .

Award winners will now be considered to join the training programme for WorldSkills Shangai 2021 with the squad due to be announced on 2nd December this year .

At the lunch,  Principal and Chief Executive of the College Professor Christopher Moore praised the students for their excellent teamwork and  how focussed and calm they had been in preparing so well for the competition, the results from which, everyone can take immense pride in and celebrate being named as the best in the UK for skills provision .

The Lanarkshire Lieutenancy congratulates all of the students and staff involved for  their hard work in  securing this very prestigious and well deserved accolade for   New College Lanarkshire and wishes everyone continued success in the competition and  their future careers .
