Royal Visit To Hassockrigg Ecopark, Shotts – 30th April 2018

HRH The Princess Royal visited Healthcare Environmental Group at the Hassockrigg Ecopark, Shotts on 30th April 2018.

Welcomed by Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Gavin Whitefield CBE DL, The Princess Royal on arrival was introduced to the Deputy Provost of North Lanarkshire Council, Tom Castles, MSP for Airdrie and Shotts, Alex Neil and Managing Director of the Healthcare Environmental Group, Garry Pettigrew.
Mr Pettigrew then escorted HRH on a very informative tour of the facility during which the Princess Royal spoke with members of the Senior Management Team and the workforce, in the offices, at the waste processing and energy recovery unit and at the vehicle workshop.

As well as unveiling a plaque to open the new waste to energy facility, HRH made a presentation to the company’s longest serving employee – Scott Dickie and to the winners of a competition involving local primary schools.

Providing employment for 150 people the Eco Park required investment of £10m and is the first of its kind in the UK and represents a major change in how medical waste is treated in Scotland.
