Many congratulations to  Wishaw   couple Ernie and Iris Holloway   who celebrated 65 years of marriage together on 16th February 2020.


The couple met at a Scout Rally and were married at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Crawford Street , Motherwell . They initially set up home in Mossend and after  9 years  moved  to Wishaw where they have stayed ever since bringing up their family of Mark , Carol and Joyce .

Iris worked in her father’s grocery shop whilst  Ernie worked for many years at Motherwell College lecturing in Engineering and Management and before his retirement was Manager responsible for Student Services at the college . He also served as a Councillor in Motherwell District and North Lanarkshire Council representing the Ward of Coltness for 12 years  and was Convener of the General Purpose Committee during that time .

Ernie has also had a lifelong association with the Scouts having served as Commissioner for Lanarkshire and he was the recipient of the   Silver Wolf Award which is the highest scouting award made “for services of the most exceptional character “.

In retirement the couple enjoy time with their family now including their  6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren , travelling to Majorca and Ernie continues to support Motherwell FC.

Deputy Lieutenant Andrew Steven DL visited the happy couple and presented the card from Her Majesty the Queen and a scroll from Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Lady Haughey  CBE whilst   Provost Jean Jones  passed over flowers  on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council .
